Bryant Crosland Obituary

Bryant Crosland

In the early morning hours of March 7, 2014 Bryant W. Crosland passed away peacefully. He had a blood disorder that made it very difficult to fight the infection that had attacked his body. Bryant was born on August 19, 1935 to Ben and Ida Crosland of Holden, Utah. Bryant was the youngest of eight boys. He married Marlene Whatcott on August 30, 1957. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on December 8, 2005. He was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Bryant was a hardworking man and taught his family to do the same. He had many jobs to help support in the raising of three daughters. Bryant spent approximately 12 years working and managing Kelly’s IGA grocery store for J. Frances Kelly on Main Street. He then served a four year term as the Millard County Sheriff where he served the community well. He then spent the next 21 years employed as a truck driver until he retired in the spring of 2000. After retirement he went to work for Fillmore City as a grounds keeper. He enjoyed maintaining the beauty of our City parks and enjoyed the people he worked with. The last five years of his life he has been loved by young and old as he worked at Duane’s Foodtown. There were many that would seek him out at the store just to get a hug or a lollipop. It always made his day. He loved spending time with his family. There are special memories with camping and fishing trips. His grandchildren have been such a blessing in his life and with the recent marriage of two of those grandchildren he welcomed their spouses with open arms. He enjoyed his years involved with the East Millard Riding Club. Next to his family, horses were his second love. There is a special horse, Danny that will miss him greatly. His other love was supporting Millard High School Athletics. He spent many hours sitting in the bleachers cheering on his Eagles. Grandpa is now eating his “Honey Nut Cheerios” and continuing to cheer from the sidelines in heaven. We love you Grandpa!

Bryant is survived by his loving wife, Marlene of nearly 57 years. His three daughters, Bonnie Williams, Holladay; Sheri (Dean) Stephenson, Fillmore; Marianne (John) Atwood, Montrose, CO; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Rex (Phyllis) Crosland; Phil (Toots) Crosland; sister in-laws, Dawn Crosland and LaRae Vandivere. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clarence (Jewell) Crosland; Douglas (Beth) Crosland; Warren (Ella) Crosland; Henry Crosland and Maynard Crosland. Funeral services will be Friday, March 14, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Fillmore 1st/4th Ward Building, 330 E 500 S, Fillmore. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 pm and Friday from 10:00 – 11:30 am at the Fillmore 1st/4th Ward Building. Interment in the Holden Town Cemetery.
